Once summer rolls around and the Summerific® Valentines Crush Hibiscus starts to bloom, this plant will likely be the focal point of your landscape. The vibrant red flowers have dark eyes that surround bold yellow anthers. The flowers open until they are flat and measure about 7 inches across. This Hibiscus hybrid or Rose Mallow blooms from mid-summer until early fall. The stunning flowers are matched by large glossy foliage that comes to a point.

This large, upright shrub is striking as a border, or it can be featured in a landscape or used as a focal point. Rose Mallow plants are native to North America, so it is low maintenance once it has time to settle in. Butterflies are drawn to the large blooms as an added perk, but the foliage is deer resistant. Grow the Summerific® Valentines Crush Hibiscus as a perennial in USDA zones 4 through 9.

Summerific® Valentines Crush Hibiscus Care

Hibiscus look their best when grown in full sunlight, although they can handle partial sun. Use moist, well-draining soil with a 6.0 to 6.5 pH. Rose Mallow has average water needs but plan to water the plant a few times a week during a drought. Water right away if the leaves appear wilted.

Remove spent flowers during the summer to redirect energy into more flowers. Cut the plant back in the spring before new growth appears. Trimming the plant early keeps it at a more manageable size and will promote more growth. Apply a water-soluble balanced fertilizer every 6 to 8 weeks.

Summerific® Valentines Crush Hibiscus Spacing

The Summerific® Valentines Crush Hibiscus will reach 60 inches tall and 42 inches wide. Create a hedge-like look by planting multiple Hibiscus 42 inches apart. Measure from the center of one root ball to the center of the nearest plant to find the right spacing. When used as a specimen or landscape planting, space 60 inches away from other plants and buildings.
