The unmistakable flowers of the Hibiscus conjure images of warm summer days, and the Summerific® Lilac Crush Hibiscus will definitely make that dream a reality. This Hibiscus hybrid, also known as a Rose Mallow, has large 7- to 8-inch flowers. The overlapping petals look like they’re made from tissue paper and are lavender with subtle hints of blue and a dramatic dark eye. Blooms start to open in mid-summer and hang around through early fall.

This Hibiscus hybrid is native to North America, where it naturally grows in wetlands. Create a lovely flowering border or feature this shrub as a specimen planting. The beautiful flowers will attract hummingbirds, and fortunately, this stunner is deer-resistant. Leaves start to appear in late spring, but this plant quickly makes up for lost time and fills out very quickly. The Summerific® Lilac Crush Hibiscus is a perennial in USDA zones 4 through 9.

Summerific® Lilac Crush Hibiscus Plant Care

Rose Mallow can live in part sun, but this plant really thrives with full sun. At least 6 hours of sunlight enables this plant to push out lots of gorgeous blooms during the summer. This plant has average water needs, and established plants need water once or twice a week but may need water more often during a dry spell. This plant naturally grows in damp conditions, but well-draining soil is essential because it does not like wet feet. Soil should have a 6.0 to 6.5 pH.

Prune the plant in the spring before new growth begins to appear. Giving the plant a trim will keep it at a more manageable size and encourage more growth. Remove spent flowers during the bloom cycle to promote more flowering. Feed the plant every 6 to 8 weeks using a balanced, water-soluble fertilizer.

Summerific® Lilac Crush Hibiscus Plant Spacing

This blooming beauty will grow 60 to 66 inches tall and spread out 48 to 54 inches wide. When using this plant as a focal point or a standalone planting, position the center of the root ball at least 60 inches away from the nearest plant or building. Create a continuous hedge by spacing plants 48 to 54 inches apart, measuring from the center of one to the center of the neighboring plant.
