Featuring dark black foliage and 7”-8” bubblegum pink flowers with darker pink veins, this perennial will be a showstopper in your landscape! The darker colors of the foliage will be a fantastic contrast to lighter hues within your garden. Bloom times are from mid-summer to late fall, adding color later into the season. This will be a large and bountiful addition, spanning 36”-42” tall and 48”-54” wide.
Native to North America, this perennial does well planted within well drained soil or in bog planting amongst water features. This is a great addition near lower elevation areas within your garden that are prone to waterlogged conditions after a rainstorm. This is deer resistant, but enticing to your neighborhood bees. Use this in focal point planting, border planting and general landscaping.
Summerific® Edge Of Night Hibiscus Care
Hardy in zones 4-9, this perennial can withstand many climate conditions and thrive. This is a sun loving plant that does well in partial and full sun with at least 6 hours per day of sunlight. Yes, this will do well whether you have poor, average or fertile soil! Acidic pH of <7.0 is best. Keep in mind that this prefers to have moist, yet well draining soil. Consistent watering produces bigger and better flowers. The first winter after planting, this perennial benefits from being heavily mulched to protect the roots as they establish.
Pruning can be done once a year in spring prior to new growth budding through. The stems are woody and will require use of a saw or heavy duty pruning loppers. When this is pruned before the new growth appears, it will take off with an astounding growth rate and produce healthy foliage and beautiful flowers.
Summerific® Edge Of Night Hibiscus Spacing
Reaching up to 54” wide, spacing is recommended to be 48”-54” on center. If you want this to be a focal point, plant it in its own bed and surround it with smaller plants to accentuate the size. You can achieve the focal point aspect by keeping the surrounding plants at least 48” from the center of this perennial. With border planting and general landscaping, it is best to keep the plants spaced at 54” from the center of each surrounding plant to allow plenty of room for new growth.
