- Best selling plant with deep red flowers!
How deep can red flowers get? And how easy can they be to plant and grow? Find out with Supertunia Black Cherry Petunia. These best-selling petunias have it all, including deep red color with even redder, nearly black, accents. The flowers appear all summer with no deadheading or other effort except watering. And even watering is easy, since this petunia can handle some drought as well.
Petunias are among the simplest annuals to grow, and they are stars in summer containers and spots in the landscape. This plant reaches no more than a foot high, but the deep red flowers appear on both the center mound of the plant and stems that can trail over the side of hanging baskets, containers, window boxes or garden bed edges. As a bonus, butterflies and hummingbirds are attracted to the pretty red, trumpet-shaped flowers.
Supertunia Black Cherry Petunia Care
Supertunias love heat and grow best in spots that get at least 4 to 6 hours of sun a day. These easy-care plants can benefit from applying a controlled-release fertilizer at planting time, and once every 2 months for those in containers. Most petunias grown in the ground need no more fertilizing.
The petunias will spread in a container, spilling over in some areas, and continue blooming with only water and sun. If your petunia spreads too much or begins to look lanky, you can trim it back, trimming no more than one-third of the plant away. Petunias will stop blooming and growing with the first hard frost.
Supertunia Black Cherry Petunia Spacing
Space Supertunia Black Cherry petunias about 12 to 24 inches apart to give them room to spread in a garden bed or mass planting. Plant them a little closer in a container for a fuller and mounding effect.
