Large shrubs and small trees are a plus in summer gardens, and Temple of Bloom Seven-Son Flower (Heptacodium miconioides) adds all four seasons to its color palette. Its twisting multiple trunks with peeling tan bark stand out in winter and give way to color in every season. Veined leaves appear in spring and develop a glossy, twisting effect. In late summer, when other plants are winding down, pretty white flowers fill the tree's canopy for several weeks. As the weather cools, the flowers fall and leave behind bright red bracts that color the fall landscape.

At a mature height of 10 feet or less, Temple of Bloom Seven-Son Flower can provide light shade in summer or just stand out as a landscape centerpiece. The fragrant white flowers attract hummingbirds and other pollinators. The plant loves heat, and can grow in zone 9, while staying hardy in the cold down to zone 5. Its compact size makes it easy to prune, but it really needs very little care. Just prune it lightly to the shape you prefer.

Temple of Bloom Seven-Son Flower Care

Make sure the small multiple trunks of Temple of Bloom Seven-Son Flower are healthy with regular deep watering in the tree's first year. Other than making sure it gets water, you have little care of maintenance with this new, special shrub. It needs no fertilizer and can grow in most any soil that drains well. You can plant the shrub in full sun or partial sun.

Temple of Bloom Seven-Son Flower Spacing

Be sure to plant Temple of Bloom Seven-Son Flower where you and others can see it and all the pollinators it attracts. It's a perfect year-round curb appeal addition to your landscape.

    A concerned...

Posted by Andrew Kaszimer on Oct 13, 2023

Recently purchased Temple of Bloom Seven-Son Flower. It arrived well packed but so many of the leaves had brown edges I was surprised. I watered right away and planted it in the ground a few days later. There were small white fragrant flowers on some of the branches that have since started to die. I am hopeful that the plant will survive. I bought the larges size so it was an investment to me.

Poor choice of packaging- since the plant was fresh & green but decapitated I suspect the FedEx guy threw the big box at my porch. The plant inside was unsecured. I hope you demanded your due from FedEx, as I understand PA has a new one is coming to me.

    Healthy Small...

Posted by Nancy Delcher on Oct 10, 2020

The trees arrived in great shape but they are really small. It's a great time of year to plant so I'm hoping they'll be larger in the Spring. These are hard to find trees so that's why I ordered them from Plant Addicts. Thanks.
