Large shrubs and small trees are a plus in summer gardens, and Temple of Bloom Seven-Son Flower (Heptacodium miconioides) adds all four seasons to its color palette. Its twisting multiple trunks with peeling tan bark stand out in winter and give way to color in every season. Veined leaves appear in spring and develop a glossy, twisting effect. In late summer, when other plants are winding down, pretty white flowers fill the tree's canopy for several weeks. As the weather cools, the flowers fall and leave behind bright red bracts that color the fall landscape.
At a mature height of 10 feet or less, Temple of Bloom Seven-Son Flower can provide light shade in summer or just stand out as a landscape centerpiece. The fragrant white flowers attract hummingbirds and other pollinators. The plant loves heat, and can grow in zone 9, while staying hardy in the cold down to zone 5. Its compact size makes it easy to prune, but it really needs very little care. Just prune it lightly to the shape you prefer.
Temple of Bloom Seven-Son Flower Care
Make sure the small multiple trunks of Temple of Bloom Seven-Son Flower are healthy with regular deep watering in the tree's first year. Other than making sure it gets water, you have little care of maintenance with this new, special shrub. It needs no fertilizer and can grow in most any soil that drains well. You can plant the shrub in full sun or partial sun.
Temple of Bloom Seven-Son Flower Spacing
Be sure to plant Temple of Bloom Seven-Son Flower where you and others can see it and all the pollinators it attracts. It's a perfect year-round curb appeal addition to your landscape.
