Loose, open rosettes of ruffled salmon-colored petals, dipped in tangerine at their bases distinguish Tequila® Supreme Rose from other floribundas. The flower clusters are slightly fragrant and bicolored, fading in color from their outside petals to inner. The blooms appear from spring until fall, and are offset by emerald-green foliage. Growing to a maximum height of 4 to 5 feet and spread of 3 to 5 feet, this continuously blooming floribunda attracts pollinators including butterflies and bees with its perfumed florets. Their exquisite color and fragrance make this perennial’s flowers and foliage perfect for cutting and assembling into beautiful bouquets.
Heat tolerant, humidity tolerant, and cold hardy in zones 5-10, this vigorous ornamental can tolerate a variety of climates. With genetic roots from Asia, Tequila® Supreme Rose is very disease resistant and grows bushy and upright. Also known as Rosa Tequila® Supreme ('Meikokan'): Patent PP21,271, Rosa 'Jean Cocteau', JEAN COCTEAU® Meikokan, and Jodi Lee™, this rose faces minimal threats as it brightens landscapes, patios, and decks with its multicolored charm. The elegance of its blooms makes the moderate amount of maintenance required to keep this shrub healthy seem almost inconsequential.
Tequila® Supreme Rose Care
To encourage more brilliant blooms, plant Tequila® Supreme Rose in full sun with at least 6 hours of direct sunlight. The substrate should also be loamy and somewhat acidic. While loving moisture, roses do not like sitting in standing water and must have adequate drainage. This floribunda should ideally receive about one to two inches of water every week throughout the growing and blooming seasons. A somewhat heavy feeder during the blooming season, feed this lovely shrub once or twice a month with a fertilizer formulated for roses.
In late winter, trim damaged, diseased, dead, and/or crossed stems to create more space and better air circulation in the inner area of the plant. Doing so will help prevent disease and encourage growth. Cut back the remaining stems to about a foot each. During the blooming season, deadhead spent flowers to extend the bloom cycle. Cover the base of the plant with compost/soil to overwinter.
Tequila® Supreme Rose Spacing
Plant Tequila® Supreme individually as a specimen/focal point, or plant three in a group for a bold color effect. Another great option is to plant this shrub in a larger group to create a bicolored hedge. Space plants anywhere from 3 to 5 feet apart depending on use. Growing well in containers, this floribunda adds height and color to decks and patios. Ideas for excellent companion plants include butterfly bush, catmint, and bleeding heart.
