Triple Curly Parsley is a parsley that will take your edible ornamental garden to the next level. The extremely showy and curled foliage is stunning, added to beds as an edging or purely as a contrast to other large-leaved produce, such as kale or Asian greens. The medium-green color stays fresh through the hottest summers and will remain evergreen in USDA zones 8-10. Harvesting parsley can be done anytime of the year. Even though this herb is a true biennial, the best flavor comes from the first year's growth before flowers are formed.
Triple Curly Parsley Care
Plant parsley in a location with at least 6 hours of full sun. This fast-growing herb is not picky about soil texture or pH, growing very well in neutral soil on the loamy side. Watering should be done 1-2 times weekly to encourage deeper roots. Space plants 8 inches apart on the center to allow room for the heavy top growth and proper air circulation. Mulch plants with 1-2 inches of organic compost at planting time. The mulch will keep the roots cool during the summer and help the soil retain moisture. The older, yellowing stems can be pruned back regularly to promote newer growth from inside the crown.
Growing Triple Curly Parsley
Triple Curly Parsley can be grown in containers and brought indoors over the winter for fresh use. Place the plant in full sun, such as a south- or southwest-facing window.
Choose pots that have excellent drainage and use a soil-based potting mix with added perlite for a light texture. One Triple Curly Parsley plant will easily fill a pot 8 inches in diameter. A planting of three will need a container of at least 12 inches in diameter. Triple Curly will make a lovely, frothy filler for any mixed planting. Try pairing this herb with other herbs or some edible summer bloomers, like cosmos, nasturtiums, and calendula.
Watering Triple Curly Parsley
Provide 1 inch of water a week from supplemental irrigation or rain. Parsley tastes and looks best when it is consistently watered. Make sure to pick parsley early in the day for the best flavor and longest storage in the refrigerator.
Feeding Triple Curly Parsley
Liquid seaweed or fish emulsion is the best feed for edible crops such as parsley. Using a fertilizer with high nitrogen will encourage leggy growth and less flavorful leaves. Fertilize pot-grown or in-ground parsley plants once a month from April to August.
