The Tuff Stuff reblooming mountain Hydrangea by Proven Winners ColorChoice® is the original plant in the Tuff Stuff collection. The pink lacecap flowers on this shrub are very dependable, even in cold climates. This hardy shrub flowers every year. The blooms are either pink or blue, depending on soil pH.
This is a great substitute in the garden where macrophylla hydrangeas struggle to bloom. Give this plant a try and you won’t be disappointed!
Tuff Stuff Hydrangea Care
The Tuff Stuff hydrangea needs well drained soil. Plant these in an area with at least 6 hours of sunlight for best results. Apply a layer of mulch to help retain moisture as well as to protect the roots during cold winter weather.
Pruning Tuff Stuff hydrangeas is not necessary because this shrub is so compact. Feel free to cut off dead or sick branches throughout the year. This bush blooms on old and new wood, and continues to produce flowers all through the growing season.
Fertilize the plant in early spring before growth starts to emerge. Use controlled release fertilizer formulated for woody plants, such as roses or trees.
Tuff Stuff Hydrangea Spacing
Plant these shrubs 3 to 4 feet apart, center on center. For a small compact hedge, that is covered in flowers, you can plant these 18 to 24 inches apart, center on center. You can also plant these in garden planters. Provide extra protection in winter if you choose to grow in pots.
