The yellow blooms of the Wedding Party® California Dreaming Lenten Rose will certainly add some cheer when they open in early spring. It produces single yellow flowers, 3 inches across, with some slight red speckling at the base. Being a perennial, Helleborus hybrid 'California Dreaming' will come back year after year and can grow to around 2 feet tall.
Good resistance to rabbit and deer attacks means this Lenten Rose is ideal for both rural and urban locations. It is tough and hardy down to USDA zone 4, and its dark green foliage is semi-evergreen. Wedding Party® California Dreaming Lenten Rose is perfect for adding some early season color to a border or for growing in a container. It also makes a lovely cut flower to float in a bowl.
Wedding Party® California Dreaming Lenten Rose Care
The Wedding Party® California Dreaming Lenten Rose is happiest in either partial or full shade. It prefers damp or moist conditions, but can also tolerate some dry periods. It prefers rich and fertile soil, although it can cope with most soil types. Irrigate frequently after planting and for the first two growing seasons. Fertilize with a light application of a balanced slow-release feed in early spring, or add a thick layer of organic compost over the root zone.
Deadheading the spent blooms can help keep a tidy appearance and limit self-seeding. In late winter, you can remove the old and browned foliage to make way for new growth.
Wedding Party® California Dreaming Lenten Rose Spacing
The Wedding Party® California Dreaming Lenten Rose grows to around 18 to 24 inches tall and wide. If planting in a grouping, space each plant 18 to 24 inches apart.
