Native to Australia and Polynesia, scaevolas are a tropical heat loving plant in Zones 10 through 11b. Bring a tropical flair to your Zone 3 to 9 garden with these lovely periwinkle blue fans of color, also available in pink and white. An easy maintainer in your landscape, and a lovely addition to your container garden, you will find yourself turning to this cool blue continuous rebloomer to add panache to your spring to fall garden.
Whirlwind Blue Fan Flower Care
Provide a slightly acidic soil, pH 5.5 to 5.8, is preferred for best bloom. Heat and drought tolerance makes it easy to maintain with just once a season fertilizing for in ground plants, and regular fertilizing for container plants, about once every two months. Not a victim to many plant diseases or pests, you will find it easy to care for once established. Plant out after danger of the last frost.
Deadheading is not necessary and pruning is not generally needed due to its compact habit. This is one annual that is not going to run over its bounds in your garden or container, it is generally well behaved.
Whirlwind Blue Fan Flower Spacing
Topping out at a height of 14 inches and a spread up to 18 to 24 inches, space your plants 10 to 12 inches apart. Intersperse contrasting colors like red, and purple for that color pop you like, or pair with white, pink or dark green accent colors. Pairs nicely with petunias, calibrachoas, angelonias, euphorbias and verbenas. Whirlwind Blue scaevola will provide all season long beauty up until frost.
