Winky Pink Columbine, or Aquilegia Winky Pink is a vigorous, blooming perennial with upright, forward-facing, soft-pink flowers with white-brushed edges and vibrant yellow stamens. These floriferous blooms begin in spring and last well into the summer. The foliage of Winky Pink Columbine is green to greenish-gray, and forms a colorful, bushy mound. They grow to a height of 12 to 14 inches tall and have an equal spread at maturity.
Winky Pink Columbine is a low-maintenance source of early spring color and has a bushy, upright, symmetrical growing habit. It is mildew tolerant, with beautiful, unique blooms that attract both hummingbirds and butterflies. It is also rabbit and deer resistant. Florists and gardeners use columbine as a cut flower because it has an excellent vase-life of up to 2 weeks. It self-seeds and propagates quickly in good growing conditions. Take care as contact with the plant’s sap may irritate skin.
Winky Pink Columbine Care
Winky Pink Columbine prefers partial sun to full shade and although it thrives in moist, well-drained soil, it can tolerate drier soil, especially after it has been established. Do not let the soil dry out, or your Columbine will suffer.
This variety of columbine is resistant to mold, but susceptible to leaf miner, so watch your plants for signs of distress. Fertilize your Winky Pink Columbine once a month with water-soluble fertilizer.
Winky Pink Columbine Spacing
Winky Pink Columbine should be spaced 12 to 15 inches apart at planting. It is beautiful when planted in cottage-style beds and gardens, along borders, or in natural meadows and woodlands. You can plant them in a container so long as they receive good moisture and are not in standing water. They combine well with roses, peonies, irises and gladiolus.
