Worryfree® plants are bred to be the lowest maintenance landscape plants with the biggest blooming rewards. Love-A-Lot Pink Hydrangea lives up to this standard. Large, white, cone-shaped flower spikes appear in mid-July and remain until the first frost of fall. Literally, no deadheading is needed to keep the flowers looking good. As a bonus, the white flowers turn a glowing pink color as the summer comes to a close and the temperatures fall. Considering its perfectly mounded, compact shape, Love-A-Lot Pink Hydrangea may be the perfect plant for gardeners of all skill levels.
Love-A-Lot-Pink Hydrangea is a quick-growing deciduous shrub that attracts beneficial pollinators and makes a long-lived cut flower in the vase. The 12-inch-long, pyramidal flower spikes can be mixed into a cottage garden plan to contrast with shasta daisies, hardy geraniums, and delphiniums or used to complement broadleaf evergreens such as rhododendrons and azaleas. This hydrangea is also perfect for container growing on a semi-shaded deck or patio.
Worryfree® Love-A-Lot Pink Hydrangea Care
Hydrangeas thrive in the shadier parts of the garden, where other blooming shrubs may not succeed. Choose a well-drained area with slightly acidic to neutral soil that retains moisture well. This hydrangea does best in part-sun areas but will thrive in some shade in hot and humid climates. Hydrangeas planted in dry shade will require supplemental watering throughout the summer months. Fertilize your hydrangea early in the spring with a slow-release, balanced fertilizer. The granular formula will release nutrients all season long. Mulching the root zone in the spring and fall helps to improve the soil around hydrangeas. The fall mulch also insulates the roots from extreme winter temperatures.
Love-A-Lot Pink Hydrangea blooms on the current year's growth, making the timing of pruning easy. When the new spring growth emerges, it is time to prune for the season. Cut out any dead or dying stems. Diagonal, crossing stems need to be cut out to open up the shrub's center. Cut back stem tips that have been killed above growing buds. This helps to keep the shape neat. There is no need to deadhead this hydrangea, as the flowers are incredibly long lived, and the best color happens as the temperatures cool in late summer and fall.
Worryfree® Love-A-Lot Pink Hydrangea Spacing
The mature size of this hydrangea is 4-5 feet high and wide. Space each plant 4 feet apart on the center when planting an informal hedge or large group. For container growing, select a pot with a minimum diameter of 24 inches.
