Each plant begins as a tidy mound, but arcs two to four feet over the basket rim by midsummer, creating a billowy dome of color that reads clearly from across the yard. Plant in a peat-based mix amended for sharp drainage and place where at least six hours of direct sun reach the foliage; four hours of morning light plus bright afternoon shade is acceptable in hot climates. Water deeply, then allow the top inch of soil to dry before the next soak; containers may need daily irrigation during heat waves. Apply a balanced water-soluble feed every other week to sustain the heavy bloom load. Deadheading is unnecessary, but a midsummer shear by one-third, followed by feeding, renews dense branching and flower set.

Treat this combination as an annual unless you garden in zones 10–11, where winter lows seldom dip below 40 °F.
