The uniquely shaped flowers of the Angelface® Cascade Snow Summer Snapdragon or Angelonia are reason enough to take notice of this plant. The striking snow-white flowers bloom from late spring through fall and stand out against the lush green foliage. This low-maintenance plant is versatile. The plant grows 8 to 14 inches tall, making it a great filler in planters. The stems also cascade over the edge of the container and trail up to 20 inches, so it is both a filler and a spiller. How ever you use this cascading Snapdragon, it will stand out and take center stage all summer long.
As a native of Mexico, this Snapdragon is heat- and drought-tolerant. This mounding plant will hit its stride during the summer heat and thrive in borders or containers. Its trailing abilities mean it will look amazing in hanging baskets, making a spectacular groundcover. Angelonia is known to be deer-resistant, so it is a very welcome addition to gardens commonly plagued by deer. The fragrant flowers of the Angelface® Cascade Snow Summer Snapdragon have a slight grape scent.
Angelface® Cascade Snow Summer Snapdragon Plant Care
If the Angelface® Cascade Snow Summer Snapdragon doesn’t win you over with its good looks, its low maintenance care needs may do the trick. This plant needs lots of light to thrive and requires about 6 hours of sunlight exposure each day. Warm temperatures are also necessary, and many gardeners wait to plant this Snapdragon in the late spring because it won’t grow until the temperature rises.
Water when the top few inches of the soil are dry to the touch, but keep in mind that the Angelface® Cascade Snow Summer Snapdragon does not mind wet feet and is also drought tolerant. An inconsistent water routine can be stressful and may impact the plant’s health over the long term, but occasionally over- or under-watering this plant is not a big deal. This Snapdragon prefers rich, well-draining soil with a slightly acidic pH between 5.5 and 6.2. Monthly feedings will keep the blooms coming all season long.
The Angelface® Cascade Snow Summer Snapdragon is always ready for its closeup and does not require deadheading. Spent flowers fall off on their own, so not much maintenance is needed. You can trim it if the plant starts to look scraggly or overgrown. This Snapdragon is a perennial in USDA zones 10 and 11, and it can handle life outdoors during the winter months in these areas. In all other zones, the plant is grown as an annual, or it can be dug up and brought indoors to overwinter.
Angelface® Cascade Snow Summer Snapdragon Plant Spacing
This plant likes to spread out, so space about 10 to 14 inches apart when planting. The plant will generally take up about 12 to 30 inches of space. An upright planter or hanging basket can typically support 3 plants but include fewer if planting in combination with other varieties of plants.
