- Pet Safe
Anubias Nana is the best plant for gardeners new to Aquascaping. It is a plant that more or less needs little maintenance after planting in the aquarium and will add much-needed shelter and safety for the smaller fish in your tank. Anubias Nana is slow growing and thrives on the waste that fish produce, keeping the tank clean and less likely to grow excess algae.
Best Locations For Growing Anubias Nana
Anubias Nana is one of many plants that can be used to decorate a freshwater aquarium, either with or without fish. The light levels are variable, and there is no need to add CO2 to the water. Anubias is the perfect starter plant.
Anubias Nana Sunlight Requirements
Aquascape plants mainly receive light from artificial light sources in the aquarium. The amount of plant material and natural light in the room will also affect the light quality in the tank. Anubias grows well with low to medium light levels.
Anubias Nana Care
Anubias Nana does not need to be planted in the aquarium substrate and grows best when the rhizomes are above the soil. Attaching the roots to a small piece of driftwood or rock helps to anchor the plant in one spot. The roots can also be anchored in the substrate as long as ½ of the rhizomes are above the material.
Watering Anubias Nana
Watering is not an issue. This plant is specifically for freshwater aquaculture.
Feeding Anubias Nana
Fertilizing Aquascape plants is not recommended. If these plants are grown with fish in the tank, they will absorb enough nutrients from the food and fish waste. Plants grown without fish are sustained from the algae and other nutrients found in the water. Overfertilizing will result in aggressive algae growth.
