Cool climate gardeners will fall in love with this fragrant abundant flowering annual. Light pink two-toned orchid-like flowers with yellow hoods billow out above light green foliage creating mounds and mounds of delight in your garden landscape or containers. Intrigued yet? This continuous reblooming annual thrives in cool weather and is ready to set out with your pansies in the spring and will give you all season color and fragrance until fall.
Native to South Africa, Zones 8a to 10b, where it thrives as a semi-shrubby bush, in Zones 3-7 nemesia will be the star of your annual garden as night time temperatures dictate how long it will continue blooming. Once night-time temperatures reach 70 degrees and above, this annual will power down its bloom period, however, this is an ideal plant for northern gardeners who find it hard to locate early spring color for their gardens and containers.
Aromance Pink Nemesia Care
Nemesias thrive in slightly acidic soil with a pH of 5.5 to 5.8. Make sure soil drains well and avoid super dry areas. Light fertilization will keep plants healthy, and some afternoon shade will be appreciated and keep the sun from burning this annual off. As with most annuals, this plant can attract aphids and other leaf and stem sucking insects, so a treatment of insecticidal soap will be a good habit to develop. Overall though, this is an easy to care for plant that keeps on giving.
Deadheading is not required for this rebloomer. It may be advantageous, however, to give it a good trim should flowering slow during warmer weather as it will encourage branching and give you a fresh flush of flowers when night time temperatures go down.
Aromance Pink Nemesia Spacing
Reaching heights of 10 to 18 inches, this medium mounding annual spreads out to 18 inches. Space plants 8 to 10 inches apart for optimal appearance and to allow air circulation to reduce powdery mildew and insect infestation. Pair in containers with dark dramatic colors on foliars like coleus and sweet potato vine and flowering annuals like calibrachoas for awesome contrast.
