The Berry Heavy Winterberry Holly by Proven Winners ColorChoice produces the most amount of berries of any winterberry on the market. This shrub is native to North America, which means it is easy to care for and a very hardy plant in a variety of conditions from shady and wet to hot and dry.

In order for this plant to produce berries, it must be planted with a male pollinator, the Mr. Poppins Winterberry Holly. The berries are not for human consumption, but are great for birds once they soften up in mid-winter.

Berry Heavy Winterberry Holly Care

Because these shrubs are native to North America, there is not a lot of care needed for these shrubs. The plants can tolerate a wide range of soil conditions, as well as variances in sun exposure, including shaded and wet soil locations.

Pruning Berry Heavy Winterberry Holly shrubs is not needed. In fact, pruning can prevent flowers and berries from growing the following year. Feel free to trim dead or sick branches as needed. You may also cut branches covered in berries for beautiful and natural decor. However, be conservative with how many branches are cut off.

Berry Heavy Winterberry Holly Spacing

Plant these shrubs 6 to 8 feet apart, center on center for mass plantings. If growing in hedge, plant 5 to 6 feet apart, center on center.

Be sure to plant a male pollinator within 50 feet of this plant to enable the plant to produce berries. 1 male plant can pollinate up to 5 female plants.
