British Gamble Daffodil Bulbs give spring borders a rare pink-trumpet look with large white petals and a frilled coral-pink cup. It grows 16 to 18 inches tall, producing extra-large flowers that can reach 4 to 5 inches wide. The trumpet opens with apricot-pink tones, then softens toward buff cream with a pale pink edge as it matures. Our growers recommend placing this daffodil where afternoon light is gentle, since pink cups hold their color best out of hot sun.
This Division 1 trumpet daffodil has one large bloom per stem, making each flower feel clean, open, and easy to cut. British Gamble is lightly fragrant, long blooming, and well suited to wedding work, vase arrangements, and spring beds that need a softer alternative to classic yellow daffodils. It performs reliably in zones 3 to 8, with well-drained soil and winter chill helping the bulbs return each year. Deer and rodents usually leave daffodils alone, and this cultivar can naturalize by offsets when clumps are left to build over time.
British Gamble Daffodil Bulbs Care
Plant British Gamble Daffodil Bulbs in fall once the soil cools. Site in full sun to partial shade, giving pink-cupped flowers morning sun or filtered afternoon light in warmer gardens. Soil should drain freely, with moderate fertility and a slightly acidic to neutral pH around 6.0 to 7.0. Loosen the planting area 8 to 12 inches deep before setting bulbs so new roots can move easily.
Water after planting, then keep the root zone lightly moist until the ground freezes or seasonal rain takes over. During spring growth, water through dry spells, especially while buds are swelling and the large flowers are opening. Reduce moisture once the foliage yellows and the bulbs enter dormancy.
Feed at planting with a bulb fertilizer or low-nitrogen fertilizer placed below the root zone or top-dressed according to the label. In lean soils, a light spring top-dressing as shoots emerge can help support repeat bloom. Avoid fresh manure and heavy nitrogen, which can encourage leaves at the expense of flowers.
Harvest stems by pulling gently from the base or cut blooms for arrangements once the buds are colored. Let cut daffodils stand alone in water for 12 to 24 hours before mixing with other flowers, since fresh narcissus sap can shorten the vase life of companions. Deadhead faded flowers that are not harvested for bouquets so the bulb does not spend energy on seed.
Leave the leaves in place until they turn brown or pull away easily, since that foliage builds next year’s flowers. Divide crowded clumps every 4 to 5 years in late summer after the plants have gone dormant, then replant the offsets right away.
British Gamble Daffodil Bulbs Spacing
Space British Gamble Daffodil Bulbs 4 to 6 inches apart in beds, or use 4 to 5 bulbs per square foot for a full planting without crowding the broad flowers. Plant 6 inches deep in average garden soil, going slightly deeper in light sandy soil and a bit shallower in heavy soil with mulch over the top. In containers, use a pot at least 12 inches wide with drainage holes, and plant bulbs close enough for a full spring display while leaving room below them for roots.
For container companions, use fuchsia and bacopa after the daffodils bloom, letting them fill the pot as the bulb foliage ages. In garden beds, bleeding heart pairs well with the pink trumpet color and enjoys similar spring light before summer shade increases. For later coverage, Japanese forest grass and lungwort help disguise curing daffodil leaves while keeping the planting soft and moisture-conscious.
