New growth appears with a slight burgundy tint, providing added color interest. This shrub reaches around 4 to 5 feet tall, making it suitable for foundation plantings or mixed borders. It sets itself apart by combining dependable structure with notable disease resistance.

Its densely branched form offers a neat silhouette, and deer typically leave it alone. Originating in Asia, this relative of witch hazel tolerates heat and moderate drought once established. Plant it in well-draining soil with a mildly acidic to neutral pH. Full to partial sun keeps foliage healthy, but it adapts to partial shade in hotter climates.
