Ficus elastica, commonly called the Rubber Tree, is a thick-leaved tropical that demands a small amount of attention but gives a lot of pleasure. Burgundy Rubber Tree has deep maroon leaves that have even deeper colored backs. The sturdy upright growth of the Burgundy Rubber Tree makes it a great addition to an indoor plantscape of other tropicals.

Best Locations For Growing Burgundy Rubber Tree

Rubber Tree prefers a warm, humid environment. Keep it away from drafty doors, windows, and air conditioner vents. The high humidity of a brightly lit bathroom may be the ultimate home for this lush tropical. All Rubber Plants contain latex sap that can cause issues for those allergic to latex or pets.

Burgundy Rubber Tree Sunlight Requirements

Indirect or filtered bright light is perfect for Rubber Tree. A southern- or eastern-facing window is ideal. Make sure to set the plant back a bit from the window and place it directly across the room. Direct sunlight will burn the leaves. Growing Burgundy Rubber Tree outdoors for the summer helps to improve growth; find a location in part to dappled shade to prevent scorching.

Burgundy Rubber Tree Care

Rubber Trees grow quickly and need to be repotted every year. Letting this plant get root bound will dramatically slow down growth. That can be a good thing or a bad thing, depending on if you want to restrict growth or not. Always use a soil-based indoor potting mix with perlite added for drainage. As Burgundy Rubber Tree grows taller, a stake may be needed to support the main stem.

Watering Burgundy Rubber Tree

Rubber plants do not tolerate any amount of drought and will need regular watering. Watering once a week during the summer and every 2-3 weeks during the winter is common. The top 1-2 inches of potting soil should be dry before watering. Ensure excess water is drained from any saucers or cache pots the tree is sitting in. The Rubber Plant roots do not like sitting in water for extended periods.

Feeding Burgundy Rubber Tree

Burgundy Rubber Tree requires minimal fertilizing. Use a diluted liquid houseplant feed once a month during active growth in the spring and summer. No fertilizing is needed during the winter months.

Plant Addicts Warranty - 1 Year (Extra Purchase Required)

We encourage all plant lovers to purchase the Plant Addicts Warranty, whether you're a new gardener or an expert. There are many variables outside of anyone's control that can cause a plant to die. Hungry animals, drought, poor soil conditions, over watering, diseases & pests are all good examples of what can cause plants to die. The Plant Addicts Warranty is a 1 year warranty protecting you from all of the unknowns and will replace your plant if something were to happen to it.

The warranty is purchased on a per plant basis and must be purchased at the same time as the plant(s). We will cover 100% of the price of the plant, but the warranty does not cover shipping costs. SImply let us know if your plant has died within 1 year of receiving it and we will get you a new one shipped out as soon as possible (depending on the time of the year and availability). We may ask for photos for documentation purposes, but we try to make the process as easy as possible.

Guarantee and Warranty

Plant Shipping

Below are some factors we consider when determining when to ship the plants depending on the timing of the order.

Winter to Early Spring

We ship only when it's warm enough to plant in your growing zone.
Sometimes plants aren't completely ready to sell and ship in early spring. We will wait until the plants are ready before shipping so you don't get a subpar product.
For Southern plants we will be able to ship much earlier than plants coming from our northern nursery.

Summer

If there is extreme heat we may delay shipping for a week or several weeks.
We review what areas the plants are traveling through as well as your location.

Fall into Winter

We’ll ship plants out all the way up to the end of the fall planting season!

Winter

Get your order in early to reserve your plants for Spring planting!

Once your plant is shipped you’ll receive an automated email with tracking information.
