The Cityline® Venice Hydrangea by Proven Winners ColorChoice® is a new and improved hydrangea shrub that adds a pop of unique color to the landscape that is rarely seen. The flowers are either pink or blue depending on soil pH. Later in the season the flowers start to show shades of green for a unique variation.
This bigleaf hydrangea macrophylla does not need pruned and is very compact. Perfect for smaller areas, this dwarf bush is small but creates a bold statement. It is disease resistant and is salt tolerant, which is nice for areas that are hard to grow plants. The glossy dark green leaves are mildew resistant, and provide a great contrast from the flowers.
Cityline Venice Hydrangea Care
Plant this shrub in an area that is well drained, but has lots of moisture. Hydrangea macrophylla need lots of water, but cannot tolerate “wet feet”. This shrub does best with morning sunlight, and afternoon shade. We recommend adding compost to the soil when planting. As with most hydrangeas, we suggest you add a layer of mulch to help protect the shallow roots in harsh winters, as well as help retain moisture during the summer and fall.
Pruning Cityline Venice Hydrangeas is not necessary. This is a very compact plant, perfect for mass plantings, garden containers, or landscaping borders. Feel free to trim dead or sick branches throughout the year.
Fertilize in early spring before new growth starts to emerge. Use slow release fertilizer designed for woody plants, such as roses. Apply according to directions on the label.
Cityline Venice Hydrangea Spacing
You can plant these 1 to 3 feet apart, center on center in flower gardens. If you choose to grow a landscaping border or edging hedge, space these 12 to 16 inches apart, center on center. These are also great for garden planters. If you choose to plant more than 1 per container, space them at least 12 inches apart in the pot.
