The dreamy six- to seven-inch blooms on this lovely clematis are truly delightful. You’ll have no trouble finding space for this compact beauty. The flowers are a rich periwinkle, with a hint of white veining, and a central tassel of pale chartreuse stamens. Diana’s Delight blooms in early summer and again in fall, delighting pollinators like hummingbirds bees and butterflies.

Hardy from zones 4 through 9, Diana’s Delight is in the Evipo series (her original name is Evipo 026), and makes a dramatic vertical focal point in a small package, topping out at eight feet tall and one to two feet wide. She would love to adorn an obelisk, gateway, container with stakes, or even make the prettiest deciduous ground cover ever.

Diana's Delight Clematis Care

The ideal location is in full sun; partial shade may be tolerated, but best flowering and growth will be in full sunlight. Because clematis like consistent moisture in the soil, it’s important to mulch your plants. The soil should not be overly wet, however. Garden Crossings suggests to plant clematis hybrids so that the level of the crown is two inches deeper than it was growing in the original pot. This protects against clematis wilt, and keeps the roots toasty through the winter.

You won’t need much in the way of fertilizer, despite the abundant blooms Diana’s Delight offers. A simple application of compost or cow manure (aged) once a year in spring should be enough. If desired, you can choose to apply a single application of slow-release fertilizer in spring, or, if using liquid fertilizer, apply from April through July monthly.

Pruning is a breeze with Diana’s Delight, because she is in Group 2 of the clematis pruning groups, blooming on old and new wood. What that means to you is a light trim, perhaps twelve inches, in early spring, after taking away any wonky (broken) stems is all that’s required.

Diana's Delight Clematis Spacing

Give Diana’s Delight about two feet to spread between plants. Consider combining several different clematis for flowering from spring to fall!
