This aquatic plant has distinctive narrow, blade-like, bright-green leaves. It has a soft, delicate texture and makes a wonderful foreground or midground plant. This plant is a great oxygenator and helps maintain the chemical balance in a freshwater aquarium. It provides great shelter and cover for fish and can be attached to most any surface. Dwarf Hair Grass is native to North America, but can be found growing in marshes and mudflats of brackish and freshwater across Europe and North America. 

Best Locations For Growing Dwarf Hair Grass

This grass-like aquarium plant will quickly form a carpet on the bottom of your tank. It prefers a nutrient-rich substrate, a pH between 6.5 and 8.5, and water temperatures from 70 and 83 degrees Fahrenheit. It enjoys slow-moving freshwater. It’s a relatively slow grower that can be pruned for shape and size. 

Dwarf Hair Grass Sunlight Requirements

This plant requires moderate to high levels of lighting. It should not be placed too close to other plants that may block exposure to light. The lower the lighting, the taller the plant will grow; higher levels of light will encourage the plant to grow more densely and quickly.

Just as the name implies, this spectacular plant is grass-like in its structure and color. Yet, it still offers stunning motion and movement in the circulation of aquarium water. Dwarf Hair Grass should be grown in the open as opposed to being placed under the leaves and stems of larger plants. This plant is easily propagated by dividing the primary plant into several smaller pieces.

As an aquatic plant, Dwarf Hair Grass does not require any additional watering. This plant can thrive in average aquarium set-ups. 

Feeding Dwarf Hair Grass

Dwarf Hair Grass draws nutrients from the water in the aquarium and releases oxygen. It grows best with a liquid aquarium fertilizer and a nutrient-rich substrate.
