The Fig Orchard Pack turns one planting project into a small fig collection, with four distinct Ficus carica varieties for fresh eating, drying, preserves, and warm-weather desserts. Black Mission offers dark purple fruit with rich, jammy flavor, Chicago Hardy adds cold resilience, Little Miss Figgy™ stays compact for tight spaces, and Brown Turkey keeps the harvest dependable with mild, sweet fruit. Mature size ranges from about 4 to 6 feet tall for Little Miss Figgy™ to 8 to 20 feet tall and 8 to 15 feet wide for larger selections, making this pack useful for containers, edible hedges, backyard orchards, and sunny garden borders. This mix is perfect for gardeners who want to compare flavors over the season, because figs can taste honeyed, berry-like, or softly caramel depending on variety and ripeness.
Fig Orchard Pack Care
Plant figs in full sun to part sun, with the best fruiting in 6 or more hours of direct light. Fig trees prefer well-drained soil with a slightly acidic to neutral pH around 6.0 to 7.0. Dig each hole twice as wide as the root ball and no deeper, set the plant level or slightly above the surrounding soil, backfill, water deeply, and mulch while keeping mulch away from the trunk. Space full-size figs 8 to 15 feet apart, while Little Miss Figgy™ can be spaced closer at about 3 to 4 feet or grown in a large patio pot.
Prune in late winter to remove dead, damaged, or crossing wood. Thin crowded shoots, and maintain an open, airy framework. Protect plants from standing water since wet roots are a bigger problem than brief dry periods once figs are established.
Growing Fig Orchard Pack
Most figs begin producing within 1 to 4 years, with harvest generally falling from June through August, though warm climates may see an early breba crop followed by a main crop. These Ficus carica varieties are self-fruitful, so a single plant can set fruit, but growing several cultivars broadens your harvest window and flavor range. Pick figs when they droop slightly, feel soft, and release easily from the stem, because they do not continue ripening well after harvest. Eat them fresh, dry them, freeze them, cook them into jam, or pair them with cheese. Fig leaves can also be used to wrap foods for grilling or steaming.
Growing Fig Orchard Pack in Containers
Use a container at least 18 to 24 inches wide for young figs, with Little Miss Figgy™ being the easiest fit for patios, balconies, and small-space edible gardens. Fill the pot with a high-quality, well-drained potting mix, then place the fig where it receives strong sun and good air movement. Repot every 2 to 3 years in spring, or root-prune and refresh the mix when the plant is already in a large container.
In colder climates, move potted figs into an unheated garage, shed, or cool protected space after leaf drop. Keep the soil barely moist until growth resumes.
Watering Fig Orchard Pack
Water newly planted figs deeply once or twice a week during the first season. Keep soil evenly moist, especially during fruit swell, but reduce watering as fruit nears ripeness to concentrate flavor. Shift to deeper, less frequent watering once roots spread and establish. Wilting leaves and small, dry fruit often signal drought stress.
Feeding Fig Orchard Pack
Feed in early spring with a balanced slow-release fertilizer or compost worked lightly over the root zone, especially for container-grown figs that use nutrients faster. Avoid heavy late-season feeding, since too much nitrogen can create leafy growth at the expense of fruit and may make stems less prepared for winter.
