Fresh cucumber slices and pickles are a must-have ingredient for summer backyard barbecues. Fresh Pickles Cucumber gives families an easy and compact way to grow up to 55 small (3 to 5 inch) pickling cucumbers per plant. Fresh Pickles Cucumbers grow on a restricted vine, giving plenty of room for fruit but not spreading all over your garden. The plant reaches about 3 feet wide, so it can grow in a large patio on your container or in a vegetable garden bed.
Fresh Pickles Cucumber fruit matures about 50 to 55 days after planting, so you can start enjoying the tasty fruit right away. Plant several Fresh Pickles plants in succession, or every few weeks, for fresh cucumbers for salads and plenty to pickle. These little cucumbers work great for canning your own pickles. Big, bright yellow flowers appear ahead of the fruit, so this restricted vining plant will look neat and pretty in any sunny area of your yard. Fresh Pickles Cucumber is specially bred for producing lots of fruit on a small vine and for resisting downy mildew disease, a problem that can ruin other cucumber varieties. Bees flock to the pretty, star-shaped yellow flowers on cucumber plants.
Fresh Pickles Cucumber Care
Plant your Fresh Pickles Cucumber in warm, healthy soil. Cucumbers need lots of sun, heat and room to grow. You will want more than one of these plants, so be sure to space them 2 to 3 feet apart. All you have to do is water and keep an eye on the plant's health. Carefully drape or twist long vines to keep them off the ground, and keep harvesting as cucumbers ripen to keep the plant's energy going into producing new fruit.
Growing Fresh Pickles Cucumber Plants
Plant Fresh Pickles Cucumber in the ground after daytime temperatures reach about 70 degrees. Cucumbers grow best in lots of sun and heat. Even with a restricted vine, you will want something nearby, such as a fence, pole or trellis to trail the plant's vine along. This also makes it easier to spot and pick the cute little cucumbers. The cucumbers will keep about a week if left dry and cool in the refrigerator, but will be firmer and taste best if eaten right after harvesting.
Fresh Pickles Cucumber is a great plant for containers, which means you can set them near a fence or other structure without having to create a new garden bed. Choose a container at least 14 inches wide and 10 inches high to give the plant and roots plenty of space.
Watering Fresh Pickles Cucumber
Water Fresh Pickles Cucumber regularly, giving the plants about an inch of water a week. Water more often during hot, dry periods.
Feeding Fresh Pickles Cucumber
Apply an organic vegetable fertilizer in the water or around the base of the plant before watering every 2 weeks or so for best production. Avoid fertilizing in peak heat and don't over fertilize Fresh Pickles Cucumber. It needs little help.
