Fun and Games® Shadow Tag Foamy Bells (Heucherella hybrid) reveals intricately lobed leaves that showcase green and silver tones with a burgundy center. Its hardy foliage remains eye-catching in partially shaded beds, attracting attention even without prominent blooms. It grows approximately 8 to 10 inches tall, creating a compact mound for borders or container gardens. Many gardeners choose it for its consistent color display that contributes a distinct texture to landscapes.

Its semi-evergreen nature allows leaves to persist through milder winters, and it tolerates occasional drought once established. This perennial, bred from Heuchera and Tiarella, handles a variety of climates while rarely attracting deer or pests. In our experience, it suits shaded walkways, woodland gardens, or mass plantings on gentle slopes. Low-maintenance needs make it an excellent choice for rock gardens and small decorative pots on patios.

Plant it in partial shade with a soil mix that drains efficiently, incorporating compost to add nutrients. A slightly acidic to neutral soil pH keeps the root system healthy. Water consistently during the first year, then supplement only when the topsoil feels dry. Apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring to foster healthy growth and enduring color. 

Trim away spent flower spikes if they appear, though the foliage is often the main appeal. Remove damaged leaves as needed, and clear away debris in late fall to deter pests. In colder zones, mulch lightly around the base for extra root insulation. Container-grown plants require more frequent watering and benefit from partial shade and a high-quality potting mix.

Position individual plants 16 to 18 inches apart for borders or mass arrangements. Closer spacing at 14 inches can create a fuller display but may require periodic thinning. Choose a container about 12 inches in diameter for a single plant, which offers adequate room for root expansion and foliage spread. Larger pots (>16 inches) can support multiple plants if desired.
