Feature
The Gold Violin Philodendron or Gold Violin Plant as it is often known, is botanically called Philodendron Bipennifolium Aurea. This climbing philodendron is much sought after for its yellow new growth that darkens to green with age. Grown for its stunning foliage, the leaves can grow to two feet in length and take on a violin shape, hence its name. A stunning house plant that can be trained upright with support.
Best Locations For Growing Gold Violin Philodendron
Preferring moderate to high levels of humidity, the Philodendron Bipennifolium Aurea can thrive in a humid bathroom or kitchen environment. This philodendron is toxic and care must be taken when growing it around children and pets.
Gold Violin Philodendron Sunlight Requirements
The Philodendron Bipennifolium Aurea prefers to be grown where it can receive bright, but indirect light. Strong direct sunlight can damage the foliage, so do not grow it too close to a south- or west-facing window.
Gold Violin Philodendron Care
Originating from South America, it is unsurprising that this philodendron prefers to be grown at a temperature of 75 to 85 °F and kept away from any cold drafts. If training to grow vertically, a moss pole or equivalent support should be used to tie in the new growth. The impressively large leaves can gather dust over time; to avoid this, the leaves can be wiped with a damp cloth to help keep them looking their best.
Watering Gold Violin Philodendron
The Philodendron Bipennifolium Aurea prefers moist soil and drying out slightly in between waterings. This plant only needs to be watered once the top inch or two of soil has dried out, although be careful not to let the soil dry out completely. When watering, ensure that all the soil gets a good drenching and that any excess water can drain away freely before placing the plant back in its decorative pot.
Feeding Gold Violin Philodendron
Although not essential, the Philodendron Bipennifolium Aurea can be fed every three months or so during the growing season with a slow-release houseplant fertilizer.
