The Golden Oakland Holly is the variegated version of the Oakland Holly shrub. This unique evergreen has beautiful yellow and green leaves that add interest to the garden all year! It can grow up to 20 feet tall when fully mature! Most gardeners grow these as a hedge or in containers for 4 seasons of interest.
The holly shrub makes a wonderful habitat for birds and other wildlife due to the dense evergreen foliage.
Golden Oakland Holly Care
These plants are very easy to care for. Make sure the plant gets at least 4 hours of direct sunlight per day. It can handle full sunlight conditions though. The plant is winter hardy to zone 6, however you can bring the plant indoors during the winter, and brought back outside in the spring if you are in a colder climate. Hollies need well draining soil and have average water needs. Just ensure the ground dries out completely between watering.
Pruning Golden Oakland Holly is not necessary unless you wish to control the size of the shrub. Little maintenance pruning is needed. If you do wish to trim, do so in early spring before the plant begins to flush out with new growth.
Golden Oakland Holly Spacing
Plant these large shrubs at least 9 feet apart, center on center, for spaces between the shrubs. For a seamless hedge, plant 6 feet apart.
