Feature
Golden Pothos is a classic starter plant for new growers. The trailing vine can be grown around a room, or the plant can be cut back regularly to root new plants. The attractive, heart-shaped leaves are mottled yellow and green and look lush with minimal effort.
Best Locations For Growing Golden Pothos
Place this plant anywhere it can be left to drape freely. The top of a bookcase or inside a hanging basket is ideal. Try to find a spot near a sunny window. Pothos are known to be air-cleaning plants and help clear indoor air of toxins from furnishings and carpets. Pothos is also known to be toxic to pets.
Golden Pothos Sunlight Requirements
Direct bright light, medium, or low light all suit this easy-to-grow vine. The brighter light will help keep the golden markings on the leaves, while low light levels may slow growth.
Golden Pothos Care
Cuttings can be taken regularly and rooted in a glass of water. When roots form, pot the new plants in an indoor potting soil with extra perlite mixed in for drainage. Repot the whole plant when the roots grow from the bottom of the pot. Either repot the entire plant into a pot 1-2 sizes larger or divide the plant into two smaller pots. Pruning back long vining stems will spur new growth from the base of the plant, helping to keep it bushy and dense.
Watering Golden Pothos
Once a week, test the soil for dryness. Let the top 1-2 inches of soil dry between waterings. Allow the excess water to drain into the saucer and discard after 10-20 minutes. Pothos does not tolerate soggy roots.
Feeding Golden Pothos
Pothos do not require much fertilizing. Do not feed in the winter when the plants slow down growth. Any liquid houseplant fertilizer is fine. Apply it at half the recommended strength.
