Spice up a dry shady garden with some Green Spice Coral Bells. The foliage of the heuchera is outstanding and can blend into many garden color schemes. Peach, pink and green appear on the new foliage and mature to a silvery green with dark veins and edges.  While the foliage is definitely Green Spice's best attribute, it also attracts pollinators like crazy when it is in bloom early in the summer.  This perennial tends to stay evergreen in the warmer hardiness zones and will die back to the ground in the colder zones.

Green Spice Coral Bells can be tucked into the front of the garden bed, grown on its own in a pot or be used in a mixed seasonal container as a show stopping filler element. Coral Bells can be found in a huge range of colors now. Planting 3 or 5 varieties together can really make a modern and bold statement. The leaf shapes contrast well in a garden filled with other shade lovers such as Astilbe, Fern and Hellebore.

Green Spice Coral Bells Care

Green Spice Coral Bells can be planted in full shade or partly sunny locations. A well drained, moist soil is needed to keep the foliage perky. Average to very fertile soil will help to keep the colors popping. Fertilizing with a slow release, well balanced food in the early spring is recommended. Mulching with organic compost of leaves in the fall will help to protect the root crown from harsh winter weather. Mulching also helps to improve the solid moisture holding capacity over time.

Cutting back of Coral Bells is best done after the first hard freeze of the fall. If the foliage is looking a little worn in the summer (due to a hot or dry spell), a cutting back will help Coral Bells to produce fresh foliage and possibly blooms for the early fall. Extra irrigation will be needed during extremely hot weather or if growing this perennial in a container. Soaker hoses or drip irrigation systems are the most efficient way to water garden plantings.

Green Spice Coral Bells Spacing

Coral Bells look best when planted in large, naturalistic groups. They can be used as border edging plants or as soil stabilizing plants in a sloped area. Spacing each of the plants at 16 inch on center provides for a fast fill in of growth the first couple of years.
