Growing Zones
Grosso Lavender is a prominent plant and prolific bloomer with a dense growth habit, creating a lush display throughout the summer. Lavandula x intermedia 'Grosso' features dark lavender-hued flowers that bloom from mid-June through mid-August. Not to be outdone, the long silvery-gray foliage complements the flowers and is more robust than other cultivars.
Plant this perennial in a mixed bed, along a border, or in a decorative container. The tall stems add height to the middle or back of a bed while lending a cottage or meadow-inspired feel to a yard. The fragrant flowers are lovely in a landscape but also make excellent cut and dried flowers. Grow Grosso Lavender in zones 5 through 8.
Grosso Lavender Care
Lavender thrives in slightly alkaline poor soil with fast drainage. A spot in full sun will help this beauty acclimate and thrive. New plants need consistent water, while established plants need water every few weeks before blooming. Water weekly when the flowers open.
Trim Grosso Lavender after the flowers fade to clean up the plant and possibly encourage another round of blooms. Leave the stems in place during the winter to protect the plant from cold temperatures. Give the stems a rejuvenating trim and remove one-third of the growth in the spring.
Grosso Lavender Spacing
Grosso Lavender stands 20 to 24 inches tall and wide. Space plants 20 to 24 inches apart to create a stunning mass planting.
