This shows how the plant is typically used in a container combo — Thriller (tall focal point), Filler (mid-height mass), or Spiller (trailing over the edge).
Tip: match plant habit to the role for the best designs.
Pattern is everything with Heart to Heart® Crème Brulee Caladium. Each oversized, heart-shaped leaf carries a broad pinky-bronze margin that melts into a creamy white center, traced with crisp white veining. It grows 14–16 inches tall and 10–14 inches wide, forming a full, upright clump that looks polished in shade. Unlike splashy speckled types, this one has a defined edge and consistent coloring that stays steady from spring through fall.
This selection from Classic Caladiums was bred for strong leaf size, clean patterning, and dependable garden performance. Caladium hortulanum 'ARN BRZ OF14-40' handles summer heat well and keeps pushing new foliage without the need for grooming. Use it as a focal point in patio containers, repeat it along a shaded walkway, or mass it beneath taller shrubs where flowers struggle. It also adapts nicely to bright indoor spaces, making it more versatile than many seasonal foliage plants.
Heart to Heart® Crème Brulee Caladium Care
Grow Crème Brulee Caladium in part shade to full shade outdoors, where it receives gentle filtered light rather than harsh afternoon sun. In cooler climates, wait to plant until nighttime temperatures remain above 60°F, since cold soil can stall growth. Choose a rich, airy planting mix with good drainage and a slightly acidic to neutral pH around 6.0–7.0. Water thoroughly, then allow the top layer of soil to become lightly moist before watering again. Feed sparingly with a diluted balanced fertilizer every couple of weeks during active growth, as excessive nutrients can scorch lighter foliage.
Plant tubers about 2 inches deep with the growing point facing upward. If grown indoors, keep temperatures above 65°F and provide bright, indirect light. Moderate humidity helps maintain smooth leaf edges.
Light grooming is rarely needed. Remove any aging leaves at the base to keep the clump tidy and encourage fresh growth. In northern climates, lift tubers after frost if you wish to store them for the following season.
Heart to Heart® Crème Brulee Caladium Spacing
Space plants 10–14 inches apart in landscape beds for a lush, overlapping effect. For container planting, one plant fills a 12-inch pot nicely, while three create a layered look in an 18-inch patio container.
We love how easy Crème Brulee is to design around because the tones don’t shift unpredictably. In container combinations, pair it with wishbone flowers for soft blooms and bacopa for trailing accents. In landscape design, blend it with ferns and lungwort for a textured shade planting that highlights its creamy centers.
