The Holiday Germander Plant (Teucrium chamaedrys) is a compact evergreen herb treasured for its glossy, dark green foliage and delicate rosy-lavender flowers. Blossoming from mid-summer through early autumn, it provides lovely garden color when many other plants have finished blooming. Its low-growing habit—reaching just 12 to 18 inches tall—makes it ideal for edging pathways, forming tidy hedges, or adding structure to perennial borders. Unlike other herbs, Germander maintains a dense, neat appearance year-round, offering consistent ornamental value and attractive texture to gardens and containers.
A living Holiday Germander Plant brings refreshing natural beauty into your home during the winter holidays, providing a sustainable alternative to artificial décor. This thoughtful gift can later be planted outdoors in spring, making it a lasting and meaningful present that continues giving year after year. Its fragrant foliage subtly perfumes indoor spaces, creating a calming ambiance. Plus, nurturing a live plant indoors during winter connects your home with nature, making the colder months more inviting.
Holiday Germander Plant Care
Place your Holiday Germander Plant in bright, indirect sunlight, such as near a south- or west-facing window. Allow the top inch of soil to dry slightly between waterings to prevent root rot, while maintaining consistent humidity through occasional misting or a humidity tray. Maintain indoor temperatures between 55°F and 70°F, and avoid placing the plant near drafts or heating sources.
When transitioning your Germander outdoors in spring, gradually introduce it to outside conditions by placing it in a sheltered location for progressively longer periods each day. Once acclimated, plant it in a sunny spot with well-drained, slightly alkaline soil, spacing plants about 12 inches apart to form dense hedges or border plantings. Water regularly until established, then reduce watering frequency to accommodate its drought-tolerant nature.
