Are you looking for a unique way to add color to your garden? Look no further than Hot Pops Yellow Capsicum annuum! This ornamental pepper produces a plethora of small, rounded peppers on compact plants with a mounded, densely branched form. The yellow and orange fruit pop amongst the glossy green leaves, offering cheerful, warm color to late-season gardens. The peppers are edible with medium heat, although they are best grown for show.
Hot Pops Yellow Ornamental Pepper is ideal for small gardens and containers, growing just 4-5” tall. Use it as a filler in containers, or grow it as a striking specimen plant in your garden. This annual is an excellent plant for combination planters, where its multicolored peppers add a pop of color alongside flowering annuals and foliage plants. Hot Pops Yellow Ornamental Pepper is especially useful for providing late summer and early fall interest to mixed borders and mass plantings.
Hot Pops Yellow Ornamental Pepper Care
Hot Pops Yellow Ornamental Pepper is a low-maintenance plant that will perform well with little additional care. Plant this pepper in rich, well-drained soil where it will receive full sun. Water Hot Pops Yellow Ornamental Pepper whenever the top few inches of soil are dry. Once fruit appears, apply a balanced fertilizer, reapplying every 4-6 weeks after that. Pinching is optional, as these plants naturally have a bushy form. To pinch, trim back tips of non-flowering stems above several sets of leaves.
Hot Pops Yellow Ornamental Pepper is a perennial in zones 10-11 and an annual in cooler regions. Although it is best grown outdoors, this plant can be overwintered indoors with moderate success. Take the potted plant inside before the first fall frost is expected. Set it near a south-facing window or under grow lights for 14-16 hours per day. Reduce watering and refrain from fertilizing the pepper during this time.
Hot Pops Yellow Ornamental Pepper Spacing
Space Hot Pops Yellow Ornamental Pepper 5-7” apart from other plants, slightly reducing spacing for containers and mass plantings. Single plants are compact and can grow well in pots of at least 6” in diameter or can be grown in mixed containers of larger sizes.
