Just Chill Double Pink Camellia (Camellia x ‘FARROWCJPD’) enchants the landscape from mid-fall into winter with soft, peony-like double blooms. Each flower stands out against glossy evergreen leaves that emerge in a striking shade of red, adding dynamic color even during colder months. Growing up to 5–8 feet tall and about 3–4 feet wide, it brings a graceful, upright presence to the garden, perfect for standing alone or blending into existing plantings. Compared to other fall-blooming camellias, this selection boasts reliable performance and a fuller presentation at a younger age, making it a top pick for containers and foundations.
In addition to its gorgeous blooms, Just Chill Double Pink Camellia offers good deer resistance, tolerance to heat, and disease-free foliage. Native to regions with moderate climates, it adapts well to various garden designs, whether used for hedges, borders, or as a refined accent in mixed beds. The evergreen leaves maintain color year-round, and the mid-season flowering provides extra brightness as other plants start to wind down. With its dense branching and showy blooms, Just Chill functions equally well as a specimen or grouped in mass plantings.
Just Chill Double Pink Camellia Care
Plant in well-draining, moist, acidic soil enhanced with organic matter. Provide regular watering during the first year of growth, and consider a slow-release, acid-forming fertilizer in early spring for optimum vigor. Though it tolerates full sun, partial sun often helps preserve its blooms in hotter regions. A thin layer of organic mulch will keep roots insulated and conserve moisture.
Prune lightly after flowering if shaping is needed, focusing on removing stray or damaged branches. In cooler zones (6b), protect the plant over winter by placing it in a sheltered site or providing extra insulation. Container-grown shrubs benefit from larger pots and consistent watering during dry spells. If desired, pinch any late-season buds to encourage fewer but larger flowers.
Just Chill Double Pink Camellia Spacing
Allow about 3 to 4 feet between plants for hedges or rows, ensuring air circulation and room for mature branching. For single specimens, leave adequate space around the shrub so its graceful form can develop. A container with a diameter of at least 16 to 18 inches gives roots ample room to expand, reducing the need for frequent repotting.
