Flowers bloom in late spring, and the elliptical, dark green foliage continues to provide color and interest through the first frost. Also known as Paeonia lactifolia, this plant is an herbaceous perennial.

This plant can easily be a focal point in a mixed border, perennial bed, or foundation planting. The blooms make wonderful and long-lasting cut flowers.
