Las Vegas Daffodil Bulbs make a grand spring statement with creamy white petals and a bright yellow trumpet. The large, outward-facing flowers can reach 5 to 6 inches across, giving mid-spring beds a clean, high-contrast look. The frilled trumpet adds texture without making the bloom feel overly busy. Our garden designer likes to use this variety in containers by an entry, where one pot can carry plenty of color on its own.
This trumpet daffodil was registered in 1981 and has become a landscaping classic for large flowers, strong garden presence, and dependable perennial performance. Each stem carries one substantial bloom, and established bulbs can increase over time when planted in sun and well-drained soil. Las Vegas is also a good choice for cutting and indoor forcing. Use it in front borders, formal spring beds, driveway edges, and patio planters where the white petals keep the yellow cup looking crisp.
Las Vegas Daffodil Bulbs Care
Give Las Vegas Daffodil Bulbs full sun to partial shade, with the strongest repeat bloom coming from at least 6 hours of direct spring light. Plant in well-drained loam, sandy soil, or improved clay, avoiding low spots that stay wet after rain. A neutral to slightly acidic soil pH is ideal, though daffodils are adaptable when drainage is good.
Water the planting area slowly after setting the bulbs so moisture reaches the bottom of the hole. During fall root growth and spring bud development, water when the soil is dry a few inches down. Feed in fall with a slow-release bulb fertilizer scratched into the surface. As foliage fades in late spring, reduce irrigation so the bulbs can rest in drier summer soil.
Cut spent flowers after they fade if you do not want seed heads forming. Leave the strap-like leaves alone until they yellow, loosen, and begin to collapse naturally. For indoor forcing, chill planted pots for 13 to 15 weeks, then move them into filtered light before placing them in stronger sun as buds develop. Forced bulbs may be planted outdoors after bloom, though they may need a couple of years to recover.
Las Vegas Daffodil Bulbs Spacing
Space Las Vegas Daffodil Bulbs 4 to 6 inches apart in garden beds, or plant 4 to 5 bulbs per square foot for a full spring display. Set bulbs 6 to 8 inches deep with the narrow tip up, and allow extra room in naturalized plantings so clumps can increase. For containers, use a pot at least 12 inches wide and deep with drainage holes, and group bulbs shoulder to shoulder for a fuller pot while keeping the soil evenly cool through winter.
For container companions, plant Las Vegas with alyssum and nemesia, which suit cool spring conditions and stay low beneath the trumpet blooms. In sunny beds, blanket flowers and Russian sage are useful follow-up partners because they prefer drainage and begin filling space as daffodil foliage declines. Around mixed shrub borders, Indian hawthorn provides a neat evergreen backdrop without competing with the bulbs’ spring show.
