Growing Zones
If you are searching for a blue hydrangea that remains compact and could be grown in a planter, then you may have just found the answer with the Let's Dance® Sky View™ Hydrangea. Its stunning blooms begin sky blue with a pale green center before turning sky blue all over as they develop. Blooming on both old and new growth, this hydrangea is known for its reblooming ability. Growing to around 3 feet high by 4 feet wide, it can be planted in a variety of spots and forms a lovely mound of large green leaves.
This low-maintenance hydrangea is easy to grow and requires little ongoing care. An added bonus is that the Let's Dance® Sky View™ Hydrangea is also simple to keep blue, either by growing in ericaceous soil or by adding aluminum sulfate. Its bountiful blooms are perfect for use in the home, whether as freshly cut or dried flowers. Part of the Let's Dance® series, this hydrangea is a reliable performer and suitable for growing in zones 4 through 9. With its relatively compact form, this hydrangea is suitable for growing in a large container or for lining a pathway or border. But no matter where you grow it, it will be sure to become a focal point of the garden.
Let's Dance® Sky View™ Hydrangea Care
For the Let's Dance® Sky View™ Hydrangea to thrive, it should be grown in moist, but well-drained soil in full sun to part shade. An alkaline soil will encourage pink blooms, whereas an acidic soil will produce sky-blue flowers. To increase the acidity of the soil, you can add aluminum sulfate. As with all hydrangeas, this cultivar requires regular irrigation, especially when grown in a container. To help prevent this shrub from drying out, water it deeply a few times a week, especially while getting it established. Although not essential, you can apply a slow-release fertilizer in early spring to help maintain plant health and promote new growth.
The Let's Dance® Sky View™ Hydrangea is a reliable bloomer as it flowers on both new and old wood. If required, you can lightly prune this shrub in early summer once the blooms have faded. Any dead or damaged branches can be removed at any time of the year. An annual ericaceous mulch applied in spring will not only help conserve moisture but will aid in the fight against weeds as well. For winter protection, any container-grown plants can be brought in under cover to ride out the worst of the cold.
Let's Dance® Sky View™ Hydrangea Spacing
Over time, the Let's Dance® Sky View™ Hydrangea can reach a size of 2 to 3 feet tall and 2 to 4 feet wide. If grown as an informal hedge or in a group, you can plant this hydrangea at a spacing of 2 to 4 feet apart depending on how closely you would like it to knit together.
