The Let's Dance® Rave® Hydrangea from Proven Winners ColorChoice® and has gorgeous colored mophead flowers. The Let's Dance hydrangea series is the next generation of hydrangeas, with improved flower color and attractive foliage. This type of color in a hydrangea was unheard of in the past. Really wow your neighbors and have a flowering shrub that is one of a kind with this plant.
This macrophylla hydrangea is reblooming, which means it blooms on new growth and last year’s branches. The flowers range from electric purple tones, to darker pink colors, depending on the pH of the soil. These are great as landscape borders, statement plants, cut flower gardens, and in garden planters! The Rave Hydrangea makes a terrific focal point in any garden.
Let's Dance Rave Hydrangea Care
These shrubs prefer locations with well drained soil. You also need to keep the soil moist, like most macrophylla need. For best performance, plant in a location with early morning sunlight, and afternoon shade. Especially in warmer climates like zones 8 and 9.
The soil pH will impact the color of the flowers. For purple flowers, you need to have more acidic soil. To increase acidity, add aluminum to the soil in late winter or early spring before growth starts. Less acidic soil will cause the flowers to be more pink in color.
Pruning Let’s Dance Rave Hydrangea should not be necessary. If you do choose to trim or shape the plant, do so immediately after the shrub blooms in early summer.
These plants do require a lot of water and moisture. So during dry periods or periods of drought, you might need to water more often. Also, if the plant does not receive afternoon shade, you will have to water more often as well. Garden planters typically dry out easier as well, so keep a close eye on moisture levels if you choose to grow these in a pot. A good way to tell if the plant needs more water is when the leaves start to wilt.
To fertilize these shrubs, buy controlled-release fertilizer designed for woody plants like roses and trees. Apply using directions on the bottle in early spring, before growth starts to happen.
Let's Dance Rave Hydrangea Spacing
These shrubs should be planted 3 to 4 feet apart, center on center. If you choose to plant these as a landscape border or compact hedge, plant these 28 to 36 inches apart, center on center. Only use 1 shrub per garden planter, unless it is very large and can accommodate the same spacing as instructions above.
