Growing Zones
Light Show Red Bottlebrush (Callistemon viminalis) is a heat-loving shrub with spring and summer flowers shaped like a long, bright bottlebrush. Light Show is especially striking, with deep, fire-engine red blooms above emerald green leaves. The foliage of this bottlebrush starts out lighter green and darkens as it ages. Choose this little evergreen shrub for unique red color, easy care and for its drought tolerance.
For a border or hedge, Light Show Red Bottlebrush will put on a year-long show, especially shining in summer. But it's small enough (only about 2 to 3 feet high and wide) to serve as a thriller plant in a container or an accent to other flower colors or foliage-only plants. It attracts birds and butterflies as a bonus. Cut some of the unique red flowers for summer flower arrangements. It is cold hardy to zone 8 and heat tolerant through zone 10.
Light Show Red Bottlebrush Care
Plant Light Show Red Bottlebrush in full sun or where it gets just a few hours of shade a day. Give it a little more afternoon shade in zone 10b landscapes. It will grow happily in any soil that drains well and needs regular water after planting and until established. After that, this little shrub can handle periods of drought. There is no need to prune bottlebrush shrubs. You can shape as you like after it is done with spring blooming.
Light Show Red Bottlebrush Spacing
For an accent wall, hedge or border, place Light Show Red Bottlebrush shrubs almost 3 feet apart from one center to another.
