Classic, kitchen-ready lemons on a vigorous, handsome tree. Lisbon is a workhorse cultivar prized for abundant, high-juice fruit, glossy evergreen foliage, and fragrant white blossom. It’s a reliable producer for patios and small yards in warm regions—and an excellent container citrus you can roll indoors for winter in cooler climates.
Lisbon Lemon Tree Care
Plant in full sun (6–8+ hours) with fast-draining, slightly acidic soil (target pH ~6.0–6.5). In the ground, amend heavy clay with grit and compost; in containers, use a chunky citrus potting mix. Water deeply when the top 1–2 inches of soil are dry—keep moisture even from bloom through fruit fill, but never let roots sit in water.
Feed from early spring to midsummer with a citrus fertilizer that includes micronutrients (iron, magnesium, manganese). Lightly prune after harvest to open the canopy, remove crossing shoots, and take off any suckers below the graft.
Protect from frost and drying winds; ideal outdoors in USDA Zones 9–11. In colder zones, overwinter in a bright, cool room (about 50–60°F).
Lisbon Lemon Tree Spacing
Expect about 10–15 ft tall by 8–10 ft wide in the landscape (smaller when container-grown). Space trees 8–12 ft apart for good light and airflow, and keep 4–6 ft from walls, walks, or other shrubs.
For containers, start with an 18–24"+ diameter pot with excellent drainage and a rolling caddy; place planters 2–3 ft apart so light reaches all sides and harvest is easy.
