Lynn Scotch Heather (Calluna vulgaris Beauty Ladies® ‘Lynn’) infuses the late-season landscape with soft purple blooms and lush, evergreen foliage. Rising only 1 to 2 feet tall, it forms a dense, semi-upright clump, producing showy blossoms from summer into fall. Its dark green leaves intensify in color as cooler weather approaches, adding layers of visual appeal. This hardy shrub thrives where other flowering plants struggle, thanks to its tolerance for poor soils and deer resistance.
In addition to its floral beauty, Lynn Scotch Heather is remarkably low-maintenance. Native to temperate regions, it adapts easily to mild climates and performs well in containers or garden beds. Its evergreen foliage keeps gardens looking fresh even in colder months, offering interest long after other perennials have faded. Excellent for mass plantings, rock gardens, or borders, this Scotch heather provides color, texture, and year-round structure.
Lynn Scotch Heather Care
Plant Lynn Scotch Heather in full to partial sun, aiming for at least four hours of daily light. Provide acidic, well-drained soil, such as a mix formulated for rhododendrons, or amend your garden bed with peat moss if necessary. Keep soil evenly moist during the first growing season, then reduce watering once established, as it tolerates mild drought. A light application of an acidic fertilizer in early spring keeps growth strong, though excessive feeding may reduce flowering and lead to leggy growth. Mulching around the root zone preserves moisture and helps control weeds.
Light pruning after the main bloom flush maintains a compact shape and encourages fresh growth. Remove faded flowers if a tidy appearance is desired, though leaving them can provide winter interest. In colder regions, shield young plants from harsh winds or strong freezes. Container-grown specimens may need occasional repotting into a slightly larger pot or fresh potting mix.
Lynn Scotch Heather Spacing
When creating a low hedge or mass planting, allow 2 to 3 feet between each plant to form a cohesive display without crowding. For container cultivation, select a pot at least 12 inches wide, ensuring sufficient root space and good drainage. This spacing and container size encourage healthy root development and better overall growth in the long term.
