Lush double rose‑purple blooms from Rockapulco® Purple impatiens rise above dark green foliage, while trailing ColorBlaze® Chocolate Drop coleus drapes stems of burgundy‑veined lime leaves around the rim. Tucked between them, Sweet Caroline Sweetheart Lime sweet‑potato vine pours a chartreuse cascade that lights up shade from late spring through early fall. Together these three Proven Winners® stars create the Manhattan Center Combination—an effortless 12‑inch mosaic of color and texture for patios, porches, and north‑facing entryways.
Deer tend to pass by coleus, the impatiens have self-cleaning blooms, and the sweet‑potato vine shrugs off heat once summer arrives. All three annuals form a mounded‑then‑trailing habit, so the mix behaves as both filler and spiller in one pot. Try a single kit in urns, drop several into a window box for instant depth, or weave them along shaded borders to echo hostas and ferns.
Manhattan Center Combination Care
Plant after frost in a high‑quality, peat‑based potting mix. Give the combo morning sun or bright dappled light—four hours is perfect—and water when the top inch of soil feels dry; impatiens wilt quickly but rebound just as fast. Feed every two weeks with a balanced liquid food to support nonstop color, and pinch coleus tips if you’d like to keep the vines shorter. Spent impatiens blooms drop on their own, so no tedious deadheading is required.
Coleus and sweet‑potato vine can overwinter indoors in bright light above 60 °F, though they slow down; impatiens usually finish with the first hard frost. In frost‑free zones 10‑11 the entire planting may carry on year‑round with a light trimming in late winter to spark fresh growth.
Manhattan Center Combination Spacing
One Manhattan Center kit fills a 12‑inch hanging basket or patio bowl. For long window boxes, repeat kits every 14 inches. When massing in garden beds, allow 16–18 inches between centers so the foliage carpets shady ground without crowding neighboring plants. Use at least eight inches of soil depth for strong root development and robust midsummer draping.
