Ornamental onions like Millenium Allium are power performers in the garden. This variety has the pretty purple globe-like flower of alliums above clumps of slender green leaves. The result is a rush of fragrant, round flower clusters just above a pretty green clump. Both the leaves and flowers of Millenium Allium have a sweet fragrance. And this little onion hybrid has long-lasting blooms in a drought-tolerant plant.
Millenium Allium blooms appear in summer, a little later than some Allium varieties. They grow in nearly any type of soil and attract bees and butterflies to the rounded flower clusters. Deer and rabbits tend to avoid allium plants. At a height of nearly 20 inches and 15 inches wide, this little allium is a great thriller in garden containers or a nice garden bed border. The flowers are perfect for a round, interesting bloom in flower arrangements.
Millenium Allium Care
Plant Millenium Allium in a garden spot or container that gets at least some sun – 4 hours a day or more. You can place it in a container with potting mix or in poor or clay soil. This allium hybrid will adapt to any soil conditions and typically is free of plant disease. It grows as a perennial in zones 4 through 8. Just cut some of the flowers for fresh or dried arrangements; the allium does not need dividing.
Millenium Allium Spacing
For a mass planting of purple globe-shaped flowers, plant several Millenium Allium plants together. Or make a border of the fragrant summer bloomers. Space the plants about 10 to 14 inches apart from center to center.
