The Monarch Queen of Hearts Butterfly Bush is unique not in form, but in color. These deep magenta flowers are absolutely stunning. The best part is, this bush is a repeat bloomer and can be encouraged to bloom even more. This unique perennial is a must-add to the garden for seasonal color that’s sure to make visitors notice.
This butterfly bush is a bit wider than it is tall, and certainly makes a good backdrop perennial for other more temporary annuals within a landscape. This perennial is valuable to the gardener, and to wildlife in more ways than one. It blooms from June through September, all the while providing the perfect habitat for butterflies and hummingbirds. To add to its value, this butterfly bush is deer resistant.
Monarch Queen of Hearts Butterfly Bush Care
This perennial is hardy in zones five through nine. The Monarch Queen of Hearts Butterfly Bush prefers full sun, but can get by in partial sun. It’s generally low maintenance in nature, and grows very quickly. Moist, well drained soil would be the best environment to plant in but due to drought tolerance, can be planted in typically dry soil. If an extreme drought is observed, this bush would need supplemental watering to maintain its vitality.
This bush can be pruned down to between 12 to 15 inches in the late winter. Spent blooms can also be removed to encourage more extended blooming.
Monarch Queen of Hearts Butterfly Bush Spacing
This butterfly bush is smaller than others. It reaches about two to three feet high, and should be spread three to four feet apart.
