Feature
The Money Tree is said in Feng Shui teachings to bring good luck to those who place one in their home or office. A story about such good fortune led to the common name for Pachira aquatica, a native tree in swampy areas and tropical rainforests around the world. Even if adding a Money Tree to your home or office fails to bring you monetary reward, you will enjoy growing the houseplant and amaze friends or co-workers with its large evergreen leaves.
In the wild, the trees have single trunks and grow as tall as 60 feet. You can control the growth of a Money Tree; some enthusiasts grow these into bonsai plants. The long blade-like leaves appear in a rounded form above a tall trunk. Money Trees add just the right amount of height against a wall and a tropical feel to any plant arrangement.
Money Tree Care
Normal indoor temperatures are perfect for Money Tree care, but they like humidity. Add a pebble tray beneath the container and mist the leaves regularly, or choose a humid location of your home to feature your Money Tree. Give the plant sandy or peat-based soil in a well-draining container. It will stay healthier with by repotting with clean peat moss every couple of years. Other than that, just remove damaged leaves and try not to move your Money Tree plant once it finds a good spot in your home with bright, indirect light.
Money Tree Location
You can grow Money Tree outdoors in zones 10 through 12; place one in a rain garden for show and expect it to grow to at least 20 feet high and wide. Money Tree goes by lots of common names and has no serious disease or insect problems.
