Mood Ring Podocarpus boasts the usual easy care for which Podocarpus shrubs are known and a gorgeous color that stands out in the garden from spring through fall. Since it's evergreen, Mood Ring also adds green to your landscape on gray winter days. Hardy to about zero degrees, this Podocarpus easily makes it through winters in zones 7 to 10. Sometimes called Japanese Yew or Buddhist pine, Podocarpus macrophyllus shrubs add color-changing flair to Japanese gardens or nearly any landscape. The shrub is considered deer and disease resistant.

It's hard to say which color on Mood Ring Podocarpus you will love best. But spring will likely be your favorite time for this plant, as the new growth that emerges on the evergreen branches takes on its bronze-pink color. The plant will grow to nearly 15 feet high and about 4 to 6 feet wide, so it's an excellent choice for a privacy screen or grouped for a colorful hedge. Podocarpus is a favorite hedge plant, with its fine-textured foliage and minimal care.

Mood Ring Podocarpus Care

You can plant Mood Ring Podocarpus in full sun, but it does best with a few hours of shade a day. Dig a hole about 3 times larger than the container it comes in and water the ground before planting. Mulch around the shrub and give it consistent, average water. Prune to shape if necessary or to even a hedge in early spring before the first flush of color begins. Add a balanced fertilizer in early spring.

Mood Ring Podocarpus Spacing

When planting a hedge of Mood Ring Podocarpus shrubs, place them about 5 feet apart from center to center.
