Bushy in habit and shockingly chartreuse, the Moonlight Philodendron (Philodendron hederaceum) is unique and easy to grow, perfect for both collectors and new plant parents. With its bright coloration, the Moonlight Philodendron is a great option when looking to provide a pop of color or diversify a plant collection. New spear-shaped leaves emerge vibrant yellow-green, fading to a more muted lime green as they mature. This plant is not fussy, thriving in usual household temperatures and humidity and not needing much more than bright indirect light and regular watering.

Best Locations For Growing Moonlight Philodendron

The Moonlight Philodendron needs bright indirect light to keep its vibrant color and compact growth. Because of its shape, this plant works great as a tabletop plant when young. Once the plant has matured, it does well as a floor plant, growing low and shrubby. Place this plant in a bright living room or bedroom to provide a different color than usual. Philodendrons are toxic and should be kept out of reach of children and pets.

Moonlight Philodendron Sunlight Requirements

Place this plant in an east-facing window, as it is able to handle a few hours of morning light and will be provided with bright indirect light for the remainder of the day. In a south- or west-facing window, place the Moonlight Philodendron far enough for it to be protected from harsh afternoon sunlight while also receiving all-day bright indirect light. In lower light, this Philodendron can lose its bright color and become leggy. In direct sunlight, the leaves can burn, turning dusty brown.

Moonlight Philodendron Care

The Moonlight Philodendron can remain in the same pot for up to two years before needing to be repotted. Once it has outgrown its pot, choose a new pot with drainage holes that is about 1-2 inches wider than the previous. Philodendrons do well in well-draining potting soil; try amending regular potting soil with coco coir to provide additional aeration and drainage. The Moonlight Philodendron can thrive in average household temperatures and humidity but can benefit from occasional misting in drier climates and in the winter.

Watering Moonlight Philodendron

Allow the top two inches of soil to dry out before watering the Moonlight Philodendron deeply, until water flows out the bottom of the pot. This type of Philodendron does not like to sit in soggy soil with ‘wet feet’, so it is important to provide it with plenty of drainage. Feel the soil before watering; the frequency of watering will vary depending on growing conditions, though the Moonlight Philodendron will generally be ready for water every 10-14 days in warmer months. You may need to water less frequently in the winter as plants slow their growth.

Feeding Moonlight Philodendron

Add a liquid houseplant fertilizer into your watering routine once a month in the spring and summer. Always follow dilution instructions to avoid damaging a plant’s roots with too much fertilizer. Fertilizing will not be necessary in the winter as many plants slow their growth and go dormant.

Plant Addicts Warranty - 1 Year (Extra Purchase Required)

We encourage all plant lovers to purchase the Plant Addicts Warranty, whether you're a new gardener or an expert. There are many variables outside of anyone's control that can cause a plant to die. Hungry animals, drought, poor soil conditions, over watering, diseases & pests are all good examples of what can cause plants to die. The Plant Addicts Warranty is a 1 year warranty protecting you from all of the unknowns and will replace your plant if something were to happen to it.

The warranty is purchased on a per plant basis and must be purchased at the same time as the plant(s). We will cover 100% of the price of the plant, but the warranty does not cover shipping costs. SImply let us know if your plant has died within 1 year of receiving it and we will get you a new one shipped out as soon as possible (depending on the time of the year and availability). We may ask for photos for documentation purposes, but we try to make the process as easy as possible.

Guarantee and Warranty

Plant Shipping

Below are some factors we consider when determining when to ship the plants depending on the timing of the order.

Winter to Early Spring

We ship only when it's warm enough to plant in your growing zone.
Sometimes plants aren't completely ready to sell and ship in early spring. We will wait until the plants are ready before shipping so you don't get a subpar product.
For Southern plants we will be able to ship much earlier than plants coming from our northern nursery.

Summer

If there is extreme heat we may delay shipping for a week or several weeks.
We review what areas the plants are traveling through as well as your location.

Fall into Winter

We’ll ship plants out all the way up to the end of the fall planting season!

Winter

Get your order in early to reserve your plants for Spring planting!

Once your plant is shipped you’ll receive an automated email with tracking information.
