Enjoy year-round color with the Morgan Oriental Arborvitae. This perennial evergreen shrub features feathery foliage, offering year-round color and texture. Also known as Thuja orientalis 'Morgan,’ the light green foliage has a gold tint around the edges, adding depth. By fall, the gold accent transitions to a purplish-bronze before settling into an orange hue by winter, ensuring this shrub provides visual interest all year.
The Morgan Oriental Arborvitae has an upright columnar form. This dwarf, evergreen shrub adds dependable color to a landscape and makes a beautiful foundation planting or hedge. The foliage offers reliable color and has a dense form. The Morgan Oriental Arborvitae grows in zones 5 through 8.
Morgan Oriental Arborvitae Care
The Morgan Oriental Arborvitae needs full sun and moist, well-drained soil. This plant is adaptable and not picky about soil type, but a neutral to slightly alkaline pH is best. Water deeply once per week or more during a dry spell. Feed this shrub using a slow-release fertilizer for evergreens each spring.
This arborvitae requires minimal pruning, but dead or damaged growth should be removed as needed. Young plants may need protection for the first winter, especially if grown in cold climates or areas prone to high winds.
Morgan Oriental Arborvitae Spacing
Thuja orientalis 'Morgan' is best for small spaces and stands 3 to 5 feet tall and 2 to 4 feet wide. Space shrubs 2 to 3 feet apart to create a hedge or a dense planting.
