The Night Light Moneywort, or Lysimachia alfredii, is a flowering perennial that introduces bold color and texture into a landscape. The sunny yellow, trumpet-shaped flowers continue to bloom from summer until frost. The five-petaled flowers are on reaching stems surrounded by medium green foliage that comes to a point and has a slight curl. The leaves feature silvery veining and develop a bronzy purple cast, which contrasts the maroon stems and leaf undersides and adds more color and dimension.
Use Night Light Moneywort as a creeping ground cover or filler and spiller in a container. This plant thrives in shade, such as under a dense tree canopy, on the shady side of a building, or inside a covered porch. The bold flowers support pollinators like bees. This leafy plant is a perennial in zones 5 through 9.
Night Light Moneywort Care
Partial shade or about 4 hours of light daily is best for the Night Light Moneywort. It prefers rich, well-drained soil. Water consistently because this plant prefers damp but not soggy conditions. Fertilize the plant every four weeks during the growing season, using a balanced plant food.
Trim leggy stems around the halfway point of summer to encourage more dense growth. Cut all of the stems back to about six inches after the first frost of the fall.
Night Light Moneywort Spacing
The compact size is part of what makes Night Light Moneywort an excellent groundcover. This Moneywort reaches 10 to 12 inches tall and grows 12 to 14 inches wide. Space plants 14 to 16 inches apart to create a consistent mass planting.
